• Sitting around watching Fire Bomber documentaries as produced by superdimensional rock fans (FB7: Listen To My Song!)
This is a story about using rock and roll to defeat evil aliens ♥ Rock and roll by a mysterious rock band.

A giant bird drops a VHS cassette on Ozma’s car. He gets a VHS player and holy shit it’s a tape of Mylene performing “My Friends” in concert but then Basara shows up. All the electricity goes out because there’s a battle and for some reason Fire Bomber decides this is a great time to play “Planet Dance.” Basara gets in his custom guitar-operated Valkyrie.
The tape ends. The bird leaves another tape.
An alien who steals life-forces from people attacks in a giant robot. The M7 fleet is getting its ass kicked until Basara wanders in and starts SPIRITIAAAAAAAAAAAAA gamlin is pissed about this moron interfering. Ozma and Bobby are confused because the official NUNS records have nothing about Basara fighting, just about Sound Force repelling the Protodeviln. Inadvertently, the M7 fleet discovers that playing Basara’s music helps life-sucked people turn normal again which is good because lots of people keep getting shot with Gavil’s soul-sucking lasers. So there’s this thing I don’t actually remember from the TV show, but apparently one of the people Basara fixes was called an “enemy,” so Basara tells Mylene – “See? Just because they’re the enemy, defeating them isn’t the only way.” This one scientist basically helps weaponize Basara: he is totes sure that songs have psychological effects which help people recover from illness. Also he can measure/amplify music or sth.
Gavil uses all the soul-energy he stole to revive Sybil. She wants Spiritia. So she goes and wrecks vast portions of the M7 fleet. Basara shows up and she goes straight to him. Being in front of Basara when he sings blows Sybil’s mind – LITERALLY, TOO MANY FEELINGS she runs away. She does this the second time they meet too (BASARA WANTS HER TO STAY AND LISTEN TO HIS SONG). Actually it happens a third time too. Then she just starts going on a rampage and stealing Spiritia from random people in the M7 fleet. She and Basara meet up again and Basara sings to her not in a robot this time. HOLY LONELY NIGHT.
Gepelnich makes some TV announcement for the first time about how everyone will be samples to help fulfill the Protodeviln dream. Big Head Guy talks about how one a single Protodeviln destroyed an entire Zentradi fleet. GEPELNICHWHATEVER LISTEN TO MY SONG Basara launches a speaker pod into Gepelnich and all it does is wake up more Protodeviln or something? Idk. Somehow Sybil ends up in a coma.

The VHS tapes have a narrative info dump. M7 is one of the colony fleets. On the edge of the Milky Way, they run into the Protodeviln, beings that need “Spiritia” to wake up. After stealing this energy, they also control humans with a form of mind control. The enemy’s leader, Gepelnich, has awoken and begun his plan against humanity. In the first stage of his plan, they destroyed the Macross 5 fleet. In the second stage, they planned to attack the Macross 7 fleet. However, there is a strange man aboard the Macross 7. He flew into battle and sang for no apparent reason. He is the lead singer of a band called Fire Bomber, Nekki Basara. Forn o apparent reason, he interferes in the battle between enemy and ally. Meanwhile, the Protodeviln notice something special about his Spiritia. Gigil, against the orders of Gepelnich, went and awoke Sybil for personal reasons. Once awake, Sybil, with her small body and powerful spirit, met Basara. She showed great interest in him and his Anima Spiritia. Sivil returned to sleep. Initially, the military considered Basara a nuisance during battles, but after Dr. Chiba’s research showed a way to use Basara’s song energy to fight the Protodeviln, the military changed their attitudes. Ignoring Basara’s attitude, they established “Sound Force.” Meanwhile, unable to wake Sybil, Gigil despaired. He placed his hopes on the enemy, BSara, and took him to the forest.
INTERMISSION
Sheryl shows up.
Sheryl: A bird brought the video, right? Well, just now, I met a strange bird.

Sybil is in the park. Basara is singing to her (“Submarine Street”). Mylene and Gigil are spying on him. A photographer takes pictures of Basara radiating ANIMA MOTHERFUCKING SPIRITIA. Gigil punches Basara for not doing enough and Basara keeps singing because idek Basara. He wants Sybil to wake up. Oh god he just keeps punching Basara I’d forgotten everything about this series Basara keeps singing LESSON LEARNED, ALWAYS KEEP SINGING WHEN PEOPLE PUNCH YOU. Gigil starts crying because Basara sings so rad-ly. Okay literally Basara lights up when he sings. He’s giving Gigil an identity crisis.
MYLENE WONDERS WHAT SHE SHOULD DOOOOO BASARA WAS RIGHT NEXT TO THE ENEMY she tells her dad, the humans capture Sybil. Gigil goes to rescue Sybil and takes Mylene hostage and Basra sings POWER TO THE DREAMMMMMmmmMMMM at him. Sybil revives and flies da fuq away.

Gepelnich wants to assassinate Sybil and Gigil. The weird furry THE BEAUTY OF guy has shown up. Gigil sacrifices himself for her and tells Basara IT DOESN’T MATTER WHAT HAPPENS TO ME TAKE CARE OF SYBIL LISTEN TO MY SONG and he sings “Power to the Dream” too (badly) so Basara joins in, I don’t think this made sense even in the TV show. But then BEAUTY OF guy wrecks Gigil pretty bad. “My Soul For You” plays. Gigil gets some sort of super-form? Basara tells him to stop or he’ll die (how the fuck does Basara know that). This creates some sort of fold disturbance that lets the M7 fleet escape Planet GGT. Gigil disintegrates singing Power to the Dream as Planet GGT falls apart. Flower Girl exists.
INTERMISSION
Ranka: That person is amazing! He even tried to help the Protodevlin.
Sheryl: He just wanted to make people listen to their songs.
INTERMISSION END
There’s an infodump where Giant Head Guy talks to someone else. The othe guy says that the Protodevlin were created when energy beings from another dimension possessed things from this dimension. The Protodevlin steal Spiritia from all creatures in the galaxy. They’re beings who can’t exist without Spiritia. A Protodeviln who runs out of Spiritia is weakened. But a mysterious power was able to seal to Protodeviln. Then a Protodeviln blows up the other guy.
PLANET DANCE Fire Bomber fights together. BEAUTY OF guy something fuses with a monster. Sybil protects Basara from him. She is so beautiful that BEAUTY OF guy just leaves. But then Sybil sucks Basara’s life force out through his mouth trying to get his sweet sweet Anima Spiritia almost sucks the life force out of everyone else around.
NUNS orders M7 to destroy the Protodeviln planet. They do while “Light the Light” plays and then “Try Again” plays. They discover that JESUS CHRIST, THE PROTODEVILN HAVE AN ENTIRE FLEET’S WORTH OF PEOPLE IN PODS MATRIX STYLE TO HARVEST THEIR SPIRITIA. Basara wakes them up with his song (it’s still “Try Again”). Gepelnich was using this as a trap – the Spiritia of everyone who woke up was being funneled into Gepelnich’s Spiritia Farm.
INTERMISSION
Luca says THE MILITARY HAS NO RECORD OF THIS. Ozma realizes the bird was BEAUTY OF guy all along.
INTERMISSION END
Basara fights more Protodeviln. HOLY LONELY NIGHTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT. Sybil keeps protecting Basara ftr. She goes into a coma from using too much power to Basara sings for her and she gets better. She almost eats all Basara’s Spiritia but then has this really significant moment where she realizes she doesn’t want to eat Basara’s Spiritia, she just likes Basara. Too bad she already killed him by draining his lifeforce. She goes to Gepelnich and says she’ll never steal Spiritia again. And tries to kill Gepelnich. Gepelnich imprisons Sybil somehow. Yeah Basara’s heart has stopped beating.

Sheryl just walks out.
The official documents say Sound Force repealed the Protodeviln god Klan is really tsun in this. BEAUTY OF guy drops off another tape.
Okay Sheryl came back for the next part.

Mylene is fight-singing. Then idk there’s a break in the battle. Mylene yells at Basara for not waking up WHEN HE’S FUCKING DEAD. Gamlin starts singing Planet Dance, having embraced that he’s in a Macross series. Everyone sings! Basara un-dies.
There is a concert.
Flower Girl finally gets him her fucking flowers.
Gepelnich something something starts something that could eat all the spiritia in the universe YOU CAN’T STOP MY DARKNESSSsssSSSS. Gepelnich is eating everyone’s life force or sth. Even Basara gets hit and stops singing. But then he flashbacks to singing at the mountain wanting it to move. (This resonates with Sheryl a lot.) He sings Try Again and saves I’M GONNA MOVE IT TODAY. THE MOUNTAIN. THE UNIVERSE. LISTEN TO MY SONG. His robot blows up but Sybil escapes and saves him. She sings with Basara. This makes Gepelnich super horny as ze realizes that singing and producing your own Spiritia is better than stealing it from everyone else. AT LAST, I SEE THE JOY OF SPIRITIA CREATION. Oh also BEAUTY OF guy realizes that making Spiritia is g8 too.
The universe is saved.
Gepelnich and the other Protodevilin go back to their own universe knowing they can create their own paradise now. Sybil goes too even tho she’s totes hot for Basara. THE GALAXY IS SINGING.
Also somewhere in there it was mentioned that Protodeviln could possess Zentradi.
