Memory: Farewell, Galaxy (concert; Infinity #7; battle; Episode 7)
Day won: 281
Game runner: Hatter
Form: “a card. Trade with someone else to view their memory—then trade back to view yours. Single exchange use only”
(So this episode technically opens with “Diamond Crevasse,” but episode six ends with “Diamond Crevasse,” and that is my favorite Sheryl song of all time so I will save it for the episode six memory where it has more impact.
Sheryl’s standing in a gorgeous gown on a stage in a packed auditorium.
Sheryl: Hey, everyone! Are you feeling cultural?
Crowd: Sheryl! Deculture! We’re feeling cultural! (General shouting!)
Sheryl: Welcome to my farewell concert! It’s been such a short time, but I’m so glad I was able to meet everyone here on Frontier!
Crowd: (SHOUTING SHOUTING SHOUTING)
Sheryl: Thank you. With everything that’s happened, it seems like you’ve been so worried about me. But it’s all right now! Like always, tonight I’ll be zooming at Marossspeed. That’s why… listen to my song!
And then FUCKIN’ MAGIC AND LASERS, HER CLOTHES CHANGE she starts singing Itega Gogo Kuji Don’t Be Late. After the song is over, she runs back stage, shucks off her clothes, and starts talking with Grace about the concert.
Sheryl: The feedback monitor is off, check it. (flopping down on the couch) How is it?
Grace: Superior. Frontier’s troops are excellent, better than I thought.
Sheryl: No, the show. And, you’re still cutting into the feeds to show glimpses? … so, how are they?
Grace: (tugging out her necklace, which… projects video of explosions in space!) Take a look. They seem to be realtime.
(Sheryl watches the video for a bit – it gets closer, Valkyries fighting giant red aliens)
Grace: Looks like the pilot you’re interested in is doing his best, too.
Sheryl: Don’t misunderstand! It’s Galaxy I’m worried about! (CLOTHES CHANGE) And! If a pilot’s job is fighting… then my job is to sing!
Okay she goes back out on stage, sings What ‘Bout My Star. At the end, she’s exhausted but happy!
Sheryl: I guess this is my last number. Everyone, this is goodbye. It was such a short time, but it’ll become a great memory. In this vast galaxy, I don’t know if the day will ever come that we’ll meet again, but… (she starts crying a bit) Eh… what? I can’t be…
Crowd: Sheryl! Sheryl, don’t cry!
Sheryl: (she wipes away tears though) This isn’t a time to cry! I—I… (she cries still, turning away so no one can see her)
Crowd: (ANXIOUS MURMURRING)
Ranka: Sheryl-san!
Sheryl: (looking up, she picks Ranka out of the crowd. Ranka looks away a moment, then looks back more resolutely) Hey, everyone. This is kind of selfish, but is it okay if I say this? This last song, just for this one person… No, these few people, I want to sing it for them. For those who are risking their lives right now, somewhere far away.
Ranka: (LOOKING ALARMED…)
Sheryl: (looking right at Ranka, across the auditorium) And you, too. I want you to sing along, too. (pause) Thanks, everyone! I love you all!
Queue Infinity #7. Sheryl thanks everyone and the concert is over.
+ This has fixed a lot of Sheryl’s weird powerlessness issues from getting “Fastest Delivery” back out of place/context.
+ She knows her name!
+ And her own voice! And she is for sure a professional singer! There’s going to be a more definite joy to the way she approaches singing now – before it was a matter of “I’m pretty sure I was supposed to sing, and bad things happened when I couldn’t,” and a sense of duty and rivalry driving her move to learn music. But now she has the actual joy of being on stage herself. (“ I love the moment of silence before going on stage. That tranquil moment before the curtain goes up. The way my heart pounds when the intro starts. My song shakes the air as its brilliant waves flow on. And the audience’s energy supports me! It’s a wild torrent that takes me through the galaxy itself! I’m a slave of the stage. But I regret nothing. That place is so amazing!”)
+ And singing with Ranka is okay!
+ GIANT ROBOTS FIGHTING MONSTERS IN SPACE EXPLOSIONS? She’s worried about “Galaxy” which is something she was worried about in the starting memory (well, pretending not to be worried about). “Frontier” seems to be the place she’s at.
+ Songs remembered: Iteza Gogo Kuji Don’t Be Late, What ‘Bout My Star?, Infinity
