Kart Corruption/Shift Info + App
Name: Sheryl Nome
Canon: Macross Frontier
Age: 17
Height/Weight: 165cm, 54kg has shrunk a few centimeters in Kart
Eyes/Hair: Blue, blonde-pink
Visual: Looks human subject to corruption details below. Some character sheets.
Audio: Speaking voice is Aya Endo, singing voice is May’n (lala). When from-home powers are not nerfed, specialized scans/abilities might show that she has bacteria from an alien bug hivemind living in her gut. Those bacteria give her voice has "Fold waves," a type of instantaneous/superdimensional transfer of information/energy -- see app for more details.
App: Here.
Natural Soul: Arthropoda: bee.
Class Abilities: Primary class ability is the social insect class magic ("secrete pheromones to direct the actions of those around them") with vibrations layered on top of the pheromones. Pheromones will be G rated unless someone apps Alto in which case they will be amply warned for and someone can throw her in a cold shower. Combined with her hivemind bacteria, Sheryl has wound up double-specialized in bug-to-bug communication.
Corruption and Periodic Fashion:
- General plan: General corruption plan is to develop an exo-skeleton somewhere between canon's Ex-Gear power armor (haha, it's ex for exo-skeleton), mecha musume bullshit. Plus bee wings. As soon as I figure out how such a person would wear underpants.
- Start of October: No signs of corruption.
- October vacation/mid-October: half-formed bee wings and the start of an exoskeleton "bracer" on her right arm.
- Late October/early November: Wings are maybe three-quarters filled out, the "bracer" covers most of her right forearm, and exoskeleton is starting to appear on her left ankle and up her spine. There are antennae starting to poke out of her head, but hidden by her hair. For general fashion/appearance, see periodic fashion, late October 2025/early November 2025 -- she tends to pin her hair up or to the side in public to make her wings particularly visible. Her wings are transparent with faint warm tones.
- November into January: By late January, the exoskeleton has developed all the way up up and down her legs and one arm, and to grow extra arms. The extra arms come out of her back/shoulders and are the same material as her exoskeleton -- brown-black. Both the arms and the exoskeleton have fine gold filaments in faintly spiraling whorls. Her wings nearly hit the ground she's standing up. Her antennae are starting to become visible, and they're a little like very thin horns poking out from behind her ears. Front and back or sth I can't draw.
- Late-January into February: Prolonged lack of Ranka (or any other competing queens) means that she's developing into a queen bee rather than a worker. Exo-skeleton covering an increasing portion of her limbs.
- Late February into March: She's developing three extra eyes, but they're generally hidden by her bangs. Her exo-skeleton covers most of her limbs and a good chunk of her torso. Her chest shrank a cup size (she's devastated). She tends to wear loose dresses (slightly too short or tightly belted for Karterian propriety) because they're easy to put on over the exo-skeleton and wings.
Shift: This except more brown/black toned, maintaining the gold patterns. Also, like. One meter instead of twenty.
Miscellaneous: Sheryl's Natural Soul is primarily chosen as a response to her prior bug experiences and as a counterpoint to her pervasive loneliness. Strongly considered wasps, but wasp queens die after one year. Strongly considered butterflies, but that's movie-Sheryl's symbolism rather than television-Sheryl's symbolism. And Aves Sheryl would just be gamebreaking. Her primary class ability focus is driven by those two things, plus her emphasis on communication. Her armor-focused physical corruption traits are primarily responsive to getting spooked by October 2025 plot trauma, and therefore wanting to be stronger/protected. Her shift is a scaled-down version of one of the space bugs from her canon. She sings to her canon bugs and to her Natural Soul bug a lot.

March 2025 TDM Memshare
fantasy: star date
Eventually, they meander from the city-ship to a smaller ship – where almost everyone else is a giant, which is new to Sheryl but clearly not new or alarming to anyone else – and explore a farm and a giant-sized mall. Sheryl, struck by inspiration, starts writing song lyrics on a pair of giant underwear. While she’s distracted, the boy folds a paper plane and starts a conversation with a giant. ]
Klan: Strange girl.
Alto: Amazing. Why is she so… no, I was just wondering why people try to sing, or fly, or, for that matter, come out into space?
Klan: Are you dumb? It’s because—
Sheryl: It’s because they can’t stand not doing it, of course.
Klan: Exactly.
Alto: I see. Can’t stand not flying, huh?
[ The boy throws his paper plane. It floats to a girl in a school uniform who starts busking in a corner of the mall. The girl’s voice and manner are bright; she attracts attention from passers-by quickly, and Sheryl and the boy head over to watch her as well.
A little later, Sheryl pulls an omamori out of her shirt and hands it to the boy. The boy is a bit awkward and surly. Sheryl keeps her voice light, but she gets a bit flustered. ]
Sheryl: Thank you. I had fun.
Alto: That’s unexpected. For you to thank me.
Sheryl: Oh, shut up. It doesn’t happen often, so be grateful. Well then, it looks like Ranka-chan will manage somehow. I can head back to Galaxy with no worries.
Alto: Oh yeah, next week there’s…
Sheryl: I’ll send you a Goodbye Live Concert ticket.
Alto: Fine. I’ll definitely fine your earring and bring it to you.
Sheryl: I’ll be waiting, Alto.
[ She kisses him on the cheek and walks away into the sunset.
It’s a casual, pleasant memory, and Sheryl spends most of it delighted by new sights and experiences of a green, beautiful space while the boy is alternately exasperated and indulgent, but it’s the end that makes this a powerfully positive memory.
This memory can be one long memory or done in shorter chunks. ]
fantasy: nyan nyan service medley
Sheryl, about the same age as in Karteria and dressed in a voluminous, colorful outfit, is on a stage that is itself on the bridge of a battleship. From the various ports and screens, it’s possible to tell that the battleship is actually in a humanoid form and about a kilometer tall, hanging out in space. Big Ship is accompanied by a quarter-sized Mini-Me carrier and a flock of smaller carriers and fighters. Behind Big Ship are a cluster of large but delicate-looking civilian ships.
In front of Big Ship is an almost Earth-like planet, save for a low-lying asteroid belt. Between Big Ship and the planet are another big ship, except purple, and an absolutely massive bee-beetle-mantis thing, stretching from the asteroid belt into low orbit. Evil Ship and Queen Bug are accompanied by a swarm of carrier- and fighter-sized bugs.
Big Ship, Mini-Me, and their escorts line up against Evil Ship, Queen Bug, and their escorts. There are so many lasers and missiles flying around. Still: the vibe on the bridge of the ship is resolute rather than despairing, and Sheryl is brilliantly energetic; she's clearly just caught some sort of a second wind and reason to be hopeful.
On top of having combat feeds and a view out Big Ship’s viewports, this memory has an odd overlay of superdimensional input -- an awareness of a girl on Evil Ship, a boy in a fighter, and a woman plugged into Queen Bug’s head. The awareness of the girl on Evil Ship, Ranka, is necessary because Sheryl and Ranka launch into an impromptu medley together, shifting from passionate determination to tenderness to bright optimism and back to determination. ]
Voice On Comms Channel: I hereby address all soldiers on the battlefield. The Vajra are not our enemies. Galaxy and Grace O’Connor, who have usurped the Vajra Queen, are our true enemies. All who have pride in your wings, follow me and advance!
[ There is a lot of dogfighting and the bigger robots punching each other. The boy, Alto, flies a fighter into Evil Ship and saves Ranka. In retaliation, Queen Bug fires enormous plasma cannons at the civilian ships. To the surprise of everyone on Big Ship’s bridge, a number of fighter bugs sacrifice themselves to block the attack. Sheryl clutches her gut like she’s taken a physical hit as the fighter bugs are injured. ]
Alto: The Vajra blocked the attack?
Ranka: Thank you, everyone. They heard the song. They heard Sheryl and my song. The Vajra have feelings too, but their feelings are very different from the ones that we have. They couldn’t understand why humans live separated from one another, and are always doing different things. So they tried to rescue me from the ever-so strange humans, because I could communicate through Fold waves too. But once they felt Sheryl’s singing, even though she was different from me, they started to realize that we, humans, are different from one another, and that we need to convey our feelings in order to understand each other. That’s why…
[ Ranka gets set up on Mini-Me’s bridge. Gradually, the bugs stop fighting for Evil Ship and Queen Bug, and start protecting Big Ship and Mini-Me. The battleships shoot lasers and punch each other some more. Alto goes for an attack run on Queen Bug. ]
Grace: Why can’t you understand? This is the final form of mankind’s evolution.
Alto: You call this evolution? You’re just sacrificing the Vajra for your own greed.
[ At one point, Alto almost gets shot down but gets his ass covered by a new fighter. ]
Brera: Alto, aim for the queen's head!
Alto: Her head?
Brera: The Vajra's heart isn't inside their head, but in their stomach.
Ranka: The Vajra sing from their stomach.
Alto: Alright!
Grace: You worthless worms!
Brera: I finally realized after being connected to you guys -- humans are always alone.
Grace: That's why we --
Brera: But!
Alto: We're able to love each other precisely because we're alone!
[ Alto and Brera do an attack run on Queen Bug and successfully shoot off her head, dislodging her from hostile control. Sheryl and Ranka have been singing that medley this whole time. The song reaches a dramatic conclusion as Queen Bug’s head falls off and the space bugs are free!
The space bugs, having learned that humans are intelligent but can also be huge dicks, sing back a little bit and then warp off into deep space.
Despite this memory being one long prolonged fight scene and a bunch of pilots and bugs dying horribly, the entire vibe is actually positive -- a spirit of determination to seize a chance for co-existence.
Sheryl is too busy singing to talk in this memory ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ]
fear: galaxy memory
Sheryl, about seven, is picking through the refuse. She’s as grimy as the alley and her long hair is dull and matted; she’s shivering in a worn colorless shift. More than anything, her demeanor is beaten down. Finding nothing edible, she ducks briefly back onto a street. There are more signs of a technologically advanced society here, from the keypads at doors to the cut of people’s clothes, but those signs are stark and practical. The handful of people out on the street ignore a dirty child racing down the block, even when her head jerks up longingly for a moment at the sight of a lit window and the relaxed silhouettes of people inside. Little Sheryl turns away from the lit window and into another alleyway, and repeats digging through trash.
tl;dr it's some Dickensian "waif in a gloomy industrial slum" stuff, except in space.
The memory is flexible on timing/length – a few minutes to a few hours. ]
fear: grace just being mean
Grace: You snuck out of your bed again? You really don’t learn, do you?
Sheryl: We should have a long chat, Grace. There’s only one thing I want to know – why?
Grace: What a vague question? And thus, I can’t answer it.
Sheryl: Why did you become Ranka’s manager? Why are you trying to tie me to a bed? Why can the Vajra understand her songs? Why, just why? Why her, but not me?
[ Sheryl breaks down in a coughing fit. ]
Grace: You’re so pitiful. Artist, singer. No matter how many titles you use to embellish yourself, you’re nothing but an idol. A fabricated idol at that.
Sheryl: You’re wrong! I’ve come this far all by myself, using my own strength!
Grace: But if I hadn’t taken you in, you’d still be a nobody. A nobody covered in trash, living in some slum in Galaxy. But, that’s all over too. Sheryl Nome is going to die.
Sheryl: Hm. Such a lame threat won’t scare me. I won’t lose, even if I don’t have you.
[ The woman laughs and grabs Sheryl. ]
Grace: You silly girl. Have you forgotten?
Sheryl: Forgotten what?
Grace: Immediately after I took you in, you were admitted to a hospital for quite some time.
Sheryl: And?
Grace: You were never healed. It’s just that you haven’t started showing any symptoms yet.
Sheryl: What did you say?
Grace: You’re going to die. Not only as a singer, but literally, Sheryl.
